ESVOT

logoESVOT was founded in 1986, in Paris, and its first Congress was held later that year in Frankfurt. Saki Paatsama was elected as first President and there were 54 participants. Since that time, the organisation has grown to become an international scientific Society, currently boasting 650 members mainly from all the European countries, but many from all over the world. Members, whether they be from academia, industry & commerce or private practice have a common interest in orthopaedics and traumatology.

The aim of ESVOT is to encourage the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in veterinary orthopaedics and traumatology in both the small animal and large animal fields. Young colleagues are warmly welcomed and will discover a friendly and informal atmosphere.

For the past 10 years, meetings have been held annually at the University of Munich, thanks to Prof. Uli Matis. Wet labs and a Congress are held on alternate years, providing a rich mix of practical classes, seminars and lecture based presentations.

esvotTogether with VOS, ESVOT organises the World Congress in Veterinary Orthopaedics and Traumatology. This is held every four years with the next one being in Bologna in September 2010. This collaboration was suggested by Professor Geoff Sumner-Smith, a great supporter of ESVOT and founding editor of VCOT, the leading journal in veterinary orthopaedics.

The current President, Aldo Vezzoni from Italy, has been has been instrumental in setting up a web-site, Ortho Vet Super Site, dedicated to the exchange of scientific knowledge and rapid dissemination of information. Access to publications as well details of all of ESVOT’s activities are readily and easily available. Please look at it, and better still, if you are not a member, join the Society.
