SCIVAC (Società Culturale Italiana Veterinari per Animali da Compagnia - Italian Companion Animal Veterinary Association)

italy

SCIVAC is a very young (it was founded in 1984) and active association. The mission of the association is to provide to its members the best continuing education in the area of companion animal medicine at the cheapest possible cost.

italy During these years of activity SCIVAC has grown from a small group of veterinarians to 8500 members, becoming the largest association in Europe and the second largest in the world. Every year SCIVAC organizes more than 130 events, from very basic practical courses to very advanced and specialist workshops. Most of the practical courses are held within SCIVAC Headquarter in Cremona, located in Palazzo Trecchi, an historical palace originally built in the 14th Century, with walls decorated with magnificent frescoes.
italy SCIVAC has 22 Specialist Affiliated Associations, each one concentrated in a specific area of companion animal medicine, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, behaviour, dermatology, etc. More than 2800 colleagues are members of these specialist associations.
Italy SCIVAC has always looked for the best international speakers in each area and whenever there is a seminar, a course or a congress to organize. In this way SCIVAC has rapidly increased the average level of knowledge of its members and has covered any possible lack of preparation between Italian veterinarians: now we can proudly say that Italian companion animal veterinarians are among the most skilled practitioners and this is due to the work done by SCIVAC over these last 20 years.

For students and newly graduated veterinarians SCIVAC offers seminars and congresses at a special registration fee (less than 20€ in 2007) that is usually a quarter of the full cost (which is absolutely one of the cheapest in Europe). Moreover SCIVAC offers the membership fee to students at a reduced price, only 50€ in 2007 instead of 130€ for veterinarians.

To contact SCIVAC for information regarding forthcoming events, application forms etc. you can visit SCIVAC website. We are working to create an English language version and more visibility for dual language events. In the meantime please open the programs in pdf format: if there are foreign speakers the event is in dual languages!
