AVEPA (Spanish Small Animal Veterinary Association)

AVEPA was founded in 1964 by pioneers in the field of companion animal medicine in Spain. The objective of the association is to provide a common organization in which to share experiences and, above all, to develop and fortify scientific continuing education. During its long history, AVEPA has mainly focused on the development of numerous continuing education activities for the association’s 3,500 members throughout the whole of Spain.

AVEPA also focus on the connection and continuing education for veterinary students. AVEPA is a member of WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) for which AVEPA organized three world congresses (Barcelona, 1982 and 1987 and Granada 2002), FECAVA (European Federation of Companion Animal Veterinary Association) and founder of FIAVAC (Iberoamerican Federation of Companion Animal Veterinary Association).

For many years, the nucleus of AVEPA’s activities has been, without a doubt, continuing education. Of the many means of offering continuing education, the one way that has been most successful and has attracted the largest number of participants has been the AVEPA national congress. From 2007 the national congress will join SEVC (Southern European Veterinary Conference) which will be a highlight on the veterinary continuous education in Europe.

Other areas in which AVEPA has actively participated are related to professional politics: drug laws, training and professional recognition of nurses, representation and consulting for government and other public agencies.

In addition, AVEPA is dedicated to the publication of scientific journal, social magazine, journal for nurses, books, technical manual and others.

The continuing evolution of the aforementioned aspects and constantly increasing volume of what we offer has not hindered AVEPA in recognizing the need for a new line of work and services directed towards veterinary practice management.
