Vet students vote top university
Throughout most of 2012, vet students across Europe, Africa and the Middle East have been tirelessly voting for their veterinary school’s place on the leader board in the Hill’s Top Dog competition. Now the results have been revealed, confirming that the generous 10,000 EUR grand prize has gone to Israel and the 2,000 EUR prize to France.

10 new poisoning modules from VPIS to be released on Vetacademy
The Veterinary Poisons Information Service (VPIS) has announced a collaboration with online content supplier Vetstream to develop a series of ten CPD modules covering the most common types of poisoning to animals.
The modules will be hosted on Vetacademy, a Vetstream service which provides e-learning modules and online videos in partnership with some of the world’s leading veterinary CPD providers.

The Online Veterinary Anatomy Museum (OVAM) launched on November 20
OVAM offers free access to detailed, annotated diagrams, specimens and radiographic images. Podcasts and dissection videos will follow soon.
Throughout development OVAM made use of veterinary student curators to help build and shape the site. The benefits of a free digital museum for students are obvious, and as the museum grows it’ll become an integral, community driven learning aid.

Vetstream will be at the London Vet Show from 15-16th November
The London Vet Show is one of the busiest veterinary events in the UK with exhibitors including the BVA and RCVS. The show includes sponsor-led seminars, CPD lectures, business seminars and an extensive scientific programme.

Comprehensive two day course for students and graduates considering a career in the UK
The British Veterinary Association (BVA), the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and the Veterinary Defence Society (VDS) are joining up to help overseas vets with a comprehensive two day course aimed at providing them with the necessary information and support needed to practice as a veterinary surgeon in the UK.
The ‘Introduction to the UK veterinary profession – an essential CPD course for overseas vets’ is aimed at overseas vets in their first two years in the UK and those considering working there.

Receive discounts by registering for BEVA early
Registration for British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) congress is available. Students who register before August can attend the whole scientific programme for £70 or for free if they are BEVA members.
BEVA congress is the largest equine veterinary event in the UK and BEVA 2012 boasts five in-depth science programmes spread over 12-15th September in Birmingham’s ICC centre.

The future of learning
A couple of weeks ago my tutor introduced myself and a few other vet students to the head honchos at Elsevier publishing house, who wanted to pick our brains on the developments in publishing of veterinary learning resources.
I have to admit, it wasn’t something I had previously given a great deal of thought to, but having had a really interesting chat with them, a whole world of questions about the future of learning has formed in my head.
