The Hill’s Feline webinar series ended this month with a presentation from Duncan Lascelles, Professor in Small Animal Surgery, delivered from his office at North Carolina State. Studies have identified that in excess of 90 per cent of cats across all age groups have radiographic evidence of degenerative joint disease. This does not always correlate well with clinical signs on examination or the history of the patient. The speaker pointed out that this ‘triangle of uncertainty’ means that it is not always easy to identify when treatment is likely to have a beneficial effect.
With few licensed products available for cats, the use of physical therapy, diet and weight management are increasingly likely to play an important role in managing the condition.
